Providing temporary foster care for dogs belonging to families fleeing domestic violence

Home Freedom Project Accessing Our Service Domestic Abuse Organisations

Domestic Abuse Organisations

If you would like to refer a dog to the Freedom Project we will need a small number of things from you, but we will be here every step of the way to answer any questions and help where we can.

Step 1: Call or Email us

Please get in touch so we can talk you through how the project works and find out more information about the dog that you would like to refer.  If we are able to help, we will then send you a form that the owner will need to complete about their dog, and our service conditions which the owner will need to agree to.

Step 2: Complete the form

Please send back the completed form about the dog, we will use this information to match the dog to the best foster home. We will also need a brief, written confirmation that the owner has fled domestic abuse and will be residing in refuge/emergency accommodation.

Step 3: We will match their dog to a volunteer and make arrangements to collect the dog

We will match the dog to a suitable volunteer foster home and will make arrangements to collect them. In order to keep our staff safe, we are unable to attend the property where the owner has fled from, but we can meet the owner at an agreed safe location nearby. Please bear in mind that it can take us between 1 - 5 days to arrange this.

Step 4: We will keep the owner updated

We will keep the owner regularly updated with photos and updates about how their dog is getting along, until they can be safely reunited. We can care for dogs on the Freedom Project for up to 6 months, in some cases we can make short extensions if needed.
