Helping dogs whose owners are homeless or in housing crisis

Lets with Pets

We know that it can sometimes be difficult to find pet-friendly private rented accommodation. That's why Dogs Trust set up its Lets with Pets scheme in 2009 to try and make the process easier for tenants with pets.

There is a range of information and resources on the Lets with Pets website around renting with pets, including top tips on finding a pet-friendly property, and links to property websites which may have pet-friendly listings.

Some of our top tips include:

  • Creating a pet CV and reference for your pet. This shows a prospective landlord or letting agency that you are a responsible dog owner and that your dog is well behaved
  • Introduce your pet to your landlord. This can put the landlord's mind at ease
  • Get written permission. If your landlord has given you permission to keep a pet in your property, make sure you get it in writing. You should ask for a clause to be added to your tenancy agreement and make sure that any ‘No Pets’ clauses are removed.
