Welcoming Dogs in Hostels

Important update on the Hope Project in relation to coronavirus

We are continuing to run our service in order to support dog owners and homelessness services. If you are an accommodation provider looking to begin accepting dogs, please do get in touch with us and we will do all we can to offer support and guidance.

We can also offer support and guidance to hotels on accepting dogs. Please email us on welcomingdogs@dogstrust.org.uk for more information.

Dogs Trust has been supporting dog owners who are experiencing homelessness or in housing crisis for more than 20 years. One of our biggest concerns has always been the number of hostels that do not accept dogs.

Currently less than 10% of hostels in the UK are dog-friendly, meaning that many dog owners are denied access to shelter and support, simply because they have a dog.

Dogs Trust's Welcoming Dogs scheme offers advice and support to hostels to help them begin accepting dogs. We have also produced a series of videos for hostels on welcoming and managing dogs:

To find out how you can begin welcoming dogs in your accommodation, take a look at our step-by-step process here and read through the sections below for more information on things to consider.
